Nintama Rantarou - TV Anime Episode Guide (part 3)

The third set of anime videos is calld "Anime Nintama Rantarou", with 9 episodes per tape. This table is organized by video volume, and includes the title in Japanese, an English translation of the title, a short summary of the episode, and the manga equivalent (if I've been able to find one). When Rantarou, Kirimaru, and Shinbei are all doing something in the story, I will simply write Rantarou-tachi. The abbreviation "inc" in the manga column means that the anime story incorporates ideas from the manga indicated, but the story itself is somewhat different. Also please note that page numbers may be approximated. If I only type "yes" under the manga column, it means that I haven't yet had a chance to find the exact volume and page number, although I know for a fact that there is a manga correlation.

Shinbei's Misunderstanding Shinbei is upset when he finds out that Shokudou no Obachan's threat of "no leftovers" doesn't include eating the heads, tails, and bones of large fish, umeboshi pits, the shells of shellfish, and other inedible parts.

Shinbei wa Doko da? no Dan
Where is Shinbei? Rantarou, Kirimaru, and Shokudou no Obachan search for Shinbei after he runs away from Ninjutsu Gakuen. However, when they get to his father's home they find out that he never made it that far. Meanwhile, Doi-sensei and Yamada-sensei are in charge of dinner while Obachan is away.

Onokoshi wa Yurushimahen! no Dan
Leftovers are Unforgivable! Shinbei's father and Shokudou no Obachan are terribly worried about the missing Shinbei. Obachan blames herself for being too strict. But then Tobe-sensei arrives to tell them that Shinbei is already back at the school.

Hone Senbei no Dan
Bone Senbei Rantarou-tachi meet up with Ooki-sensei, who helps them get the fish back from Happousai.

Search for the Fallen Star! Rantarou-tachi head to Uraurayama to try to find a meteorite to make Shokudou no Obachan's wish come true, meeting Fumiai-san again on the way.

Ninjutsu Kakurenbo no Dan
Ninjutsu Hide and Seek The kunoichi challenge Rantaoru-tachi to a hide and seek-type challenge for the last three manju.
Shinbei no Bouken no Dan
Shinbei's Adventure Shinbei is scared to go to the bathroom by himself in the middle of the night.

I Love Castella Shinbei gets a package of castella from his father, and Gakuenchou wants a piece.

I Hate Passwords When a Dokutake ninja tries to infiltrate Ninjutsu Gakuen posing as a student, Rantarou and Kirimaru follow him, pretending to be Dokutake ninja. yes

Happousai's Aim After he helps Rantarou escape from the Dokutake, Rikichi, infiltrating the Dokutake himself, must help disguise Kirimaru and Shinbei. yes

Tenshoku no Dan
A Change of Occupation Daisan-kyoueimaru comes to the school with fresh fish and a proposition for Yamada-sensei. Why not become a pirate? The benefits are great! But something keeps Yamada-sensei at Ninjutsu Gakuen. (This is a sweet episode! And Yamada-sensei's wife (her back, anyway) makes a cameo appearance!)
Shinbei no Kaze no Dan
Shinbei's Cold While Kirimaru exaggerates to Shokudou no Obachan all about Shinbei's illness, all Shinbei wants is some peace and quiet so he can sleep. Why won't everyone just leave him alone?

The Collapsed Traveller On the way to school, Rantarou-tachi and Shouzaemon encounter a disturbing sight - a strange man lying face down by the side of the road. Based on their past experiences with strange men lying as-if-dead, Rantarou and the others decide that maybe it's best to take a different route.

The Implement Committee of Terror Arriving at school, the students find that they've been assigned new duties. Shinbei is now the library aide, and Rantarou and Kirimaru become the new assistants to Yoshino Sakuzou-sensei, the man in charge of the school tools and weapons. My Tooth Hurts Shinbei gets a toothache and can't eat, so Rantarou and Kirimaru try to help him pull the tooth.

Grilled Slugs Tobe-sensei is starving and gets stuck eating the kunoichi trio's newest culinary creation - grilled slugs. Meanwhile, Kisanta is hysterical when his slugs are missing.

Agari Shou wo Naose! no Dan
Cure the Nervousness! Oomajime-sensei can't handle teaching in the girl's classroom, so Rantarou-tachi try to help him overcome his fear of girls.

Ane no Kataki no Dan
My Sister's Killer An old lady arrives at the school to avenge her sister and Yamamoto-sensei seems to be the person she's looking for.

Tobe-sensei no Otehon no Dan
Tobe-sensei's Good Example When they have to cut mountains of vegetables for dinner, Rantarou-tachi enlist the unknowing aid of Tobe-sensei.

Ninja Makinosuke no Dan
Ninja Makinosuke While out running, hagumi finds Makinosuke pretending to be dead. Is he learning ninpou from the famous yet mysterious tanba ninja? Gakuenchou wants hagumi to investigate the suspicious ninja school handing out fliers. vol 24 p.111-123

A Doctor with a Good Reputation When the Pot of Karawatari is missing, the priest collapses. Rantarou-tachi rush to find a doctor, but instead they find a crook and miser who leads them to the pot that Orin sold. But how did the pot get from Kinraku Temple to Orin to begin with?

Dokechi wa Dare? no Dan
Who is the Miser? Orin claims to have found the pot the previous summer, when Rantarou-tachi were cleaning the temple. Looks like they're responsible after all. They recover the pot, which is actually not a pot at all.
